But, what´s going on in London?

  Maharajah Mango Slices

We´re absolutely into Indian food. And this beautiful can sitting now on the kitchen table is going to make for a delicious home made kulfi.

*Yes, the blog has a new look, I hope you like it. I have finally decided to choose this one so I can post pictures up to 600 pixels wide. The other one just allowed me to post up to 420 and then I had to make a link to a larger image wich I think was probably a bit annoying and nobody really cared to click (pity, because many of them had hidden surprises). I think the images here look much brighter. As soon as I learn a bit of html I will be customizing it. Because, for example, I have lost the "recent posts tab" wich I personally found very useful. Enjoy.

MY NEW "OTHER BLOG" ABOUT FUNNY CARS

DON'T MISS THE BRAND NEW "FUNNY CARS YOU SEE IN LONDON"!!

Funny cars you see in London

My other blog about wheeled creatures in the city.
And please, report any "young blog" mistake you might see.

"Warqadaan waxaay fasiraysaa sida - 100% London"

Click on the image to view the entire document, Amazing!

We got the election register papers the other day. One of the most amazing things of this city is that you get the information in English but you have the chance to request it in Bengali, Cantonese, French, Gujarati, Kurdish, Punjabi, Somali, Spanish, Turkish, Urdu and Vietnamese. And so they tell it to you in all those languages.
The picture shows just the beginning of the Somali text (wich sound I have personally found wonderful), but if you click on the image you can see the entire sheet written in 12 languages. 100% London.

"Tea without milk is so uncivilized"

Obviously, this time the image is not mine

I have just seen "The Great Escape" once again (well, for the 1.000th time...and so far in...mmm...4 languages?? But this is the first time I have ever seen it in English, its original soundtrack. And thus, I have truly enjoyed the wonders of the script.)
My favourite character is no doubt Flight Lt. Blythe, played wonderfully by Donald Pleasence. A lovely English birdwatcher that appreciates the little joys of life, such as a cup of tea. He is the one in charge of the paperwork for the would-be fugitives, and loses his sight as the movie reaches the end.
Together with James Garner (playing Flight Lt. Hendley) he creates my favourite scene of the movie...the entire quote goes: (he´s preparing some tea and offers a cup to his American fellow who refuses arguing that he has only had it when ill)
"Afraid this tea's pathetic. Must have used these wretched leaves about twenty times. It's not that I mind so much. Tea without milk is so uncivilized."

*Apparently Donald Pleasence was a prisioner of war himself during WWII.

  One of those places
This is one of those places where they fix the strange creatures. Just one of many.
There´s a smell of oil and dust but one can´t help to imagine this spot back some decades ago. Then, the taste of sweet tea and the hum of an old radio would have filled it all, both the garage and the mind.
One of those places. This one is in Vyner Street.

Somehow the same way, I like to picture myself these images like B/W shots and brush a part of them with colour, just like the scent of sweet tea among the greasy tools.

Soon winter (The Hackney Series VI)

Click on the image for a full size picture

Broadway Market has already been on my blog, Like back in Spring with the gorgeous St. Marcelin cheese, or not that long ago with The Morris Minor 1000.
But this time it´s a new discovery: The film shop
The best video shop I´ve ever seen. They´ve got it all. All the classics and films from all over the World, from Almodovar to Wenders... In the late afternoon it`s always packed with very nice young people who come by bike and then go for a pint in the surrounding pubs, like the Dove or Little Georgia, or a bit further away to the Pub on the Park.
And as the summer dies, they´ve got this lovely board with colorful letters about summer films on the showwindow.

Broadway Market.
It´s usually quite calm and peaceful, but as the Saturday morning market arrives, everything comes alive.

In case you need any advice: BroadwayMarket.co.uk

**Hey!!, Don´t think they pay me a penny for this!!

  Finding a new path again

Click on the image for a full size picture

Well, just the same way I ran throughout last winter my own way to Madrid Marathon 2005...I´m on my way to San Sebastián Marathon that will take place next 27th of November.
I have to find a new path taking me there. A 3 month path more than 600km long. I´ll be running it mostly across Victoria Park, Regent´s Canal and the river Lea. (Any of them being worth a visit if you happen to be in London)

**You just couldn´t imagine how difficult it was to take that picture on my own without the help of a tripod!

Last images of the summer in London
It seems that the summer is coming to an end. But, having said that...we still can enjoy small pleasures-treasures. Like the incredibly tasty London blackberries (carefully picked in the Hackney Marsh, by the banks of the river Lea) as well as the biggest broad beans I´ve ever seen...or should I say "the broadest beans" I´ve ever seen???
